Industries such as pipelines, utilities, wind farms, mining, and well as search and rescue need to move people and materials to and from remote, hard-to-reach locations. In the past, they have used pickup trucks, side-by-sides, and even school buses. But when it’s messy and muddy, or the hills are too steep, these traditional modes of transport don’t cut it.
In 2018, Quebec-based Zeal Motors came up with a revolutionary solution for this problem—
Fat Truck is an industrial off-road amphibious vehicle, capable of tackling the toughest terrain.
The first model introduced was the Fat Truck 2.8 C.
Operated using a single joystick, the Fat Truck is easy to operate and perfect for people who have accessibility concerns.
The Fat Truck can climb or descend 70 percent inclines both forward and in reverse. It can also scale the sides of hills with 40 percent inclines. The truck measures about 101 inches tall, 146.5 inches long, and 100 inches wide.
The vehicle can transport up to 8 people and travel at a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour. Or you can fit it without seats to haul a generator or welder in the back. Fat Truck has a payload of about 2,200 lbs.
Fat Truck is equipped with low-pressure tires 1.5 meters tall by 60 cm wide, that can handle even the difficult terrain. Because the tires are low pressure, instead of getting punctured by sharp rocks and other obstacles, they can go over the obstacle, molding to the object. And Fat Truck’s tire inflation system allows drivers to adjust the psi from inside of the cab, while driving, to the preset psi that is ideal for the specific terrain you encounter. You can go from 0 psi to 5 psi in 17 seconds!
Weighing in at about 6,000 lbs. in standard configuration, the bottom of the Fat truck is constructed of Hardox steel for ultimate durability while the top is made of aluminum. In the center of the bottom is where the engine is located. This low, center of gravity makes the vehicle very stable.
The Fat Truck is powered by a Caterpillar 2.2-litre, Tier 4 Final four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. 67 hp Hydrostatic transmission allows independent control of the left and right wheels. For braking, the Fat Truck utilizes the hydrostatic drive for positive deceleration.
Equipped with an 18.5-gallon fuel tank, Fat Truck uses on average 1.5 gallons per hour of operations. This fuel economy allows you to work 2 shifts before you need to gas up again. Oil changes are required once every 500 hours, and the Fat Truck doesn’t have any greasing points, and all fluids have drain plugs exiting the vehicle.
Designed to be watertight, whether, in two feet of water or 200 feet of water, the amphibious Fat Truck floats, due to the water displacement of the chassis and the wheels, even while carrying its full payload. You can travel at a maximum speed of 3 miles per hour on the water.
The Fat Truck is manufactured in Bromont, Quebec. Sixty percent of the parts come from the U.S., and the rest are from within 300 miles of the factory. Only the wheels come from outside of North America.
Fat Truck is also available with numerous options, including various lighting packages, amphibious trailers, a winch, and even a vehicle remote control! See all our accessories.
